Environments Classified for Corrosion

To help understand what kinds of protective coatings should be used for a certain area we use this rating system:

C1 – VERY LOW E.G. INSIDE OF AN AIRPORT TERMINAL
C2 – Low e.g. warehouse
C3 – Medium e.g. stadium
C4 – High e.g. ports, open coastal area
C5-I – Very High (Industrial) e.g. chemical plant
C5-M – Very High (Marine) e.g. offshore and coastal areas - Im1: Fresh Water Immersion - Im2: Sea or Brackish Water Immersion- Im3: Buried in the soil
